Consumption is far greater this year than last, and the prices of all lines of cot ton goods abnormally high. Jf the small balance of cotton now held is sold for fifteen cents, the whole crop will not average over 11^ cents i>er i>ound. Receipts will soon drop of? heavily and a stronger market will be luid. Do not rush your cotton on the market, but hold it and win out in the great struggle that is on betweeu the spot holders on the one side and speculators, spin ners and buyers on the other. F. Stewart, A. G. P. A., of the Seaboard, and Capt. \V. Ij. Burroughs, A. P. A., of the same system were in the city on Saturday. Col. Cotton Meal for Hogs. i The following interesting sug I gestions are made by Professo: Marshall, with reference to the hardening effect of the meal feed: "The point of greatest, interest is the effect of feeding cotton seed meal upon the firmness ol the carcass. Usually the long- fed, well- fattened hogs give a smaller proportion of oil.x carcasses than are found anions the lighter and thinner sorts The cotton seed meal fed lots, while averaging heavier, were not fatter. An examination of the cooled carcasses showed that. t here was. on the average, considerably less fat and more lean meat in the mcal f</il ho?;s. On tins ac count the yield of lard was less than in the corn-fed lots. As to the firmness of the fat, there was soft, ho&s in each lot, though none were decidedly oily. The |>ro|H>rtion of 'soft, hours' was ?;rea1er in the corn-fed lots. These, the corn- fed lots, each contained one or two <^ood linn "sides and the remainder inclin ing to soil.
