brother, Dr. D. L. DoSaussure,
on Tuesday night, the 12th inst..
Miss^Octavla DeSaussnre. The
news of the demise of this esti
mable lady will cause a pang to
the heart of every one who
knew her, for to know her, was
to love her. She was a great
sufferer for many years, but
bore her afflictions with Spar
tan and christian fortitude. In
proportion to the suffering she
eudured in life, we believe that
she is now enjoying a meet
recompense in that place not
made with hands, prepared by
the Savior she loved so well, for
those who believed in him, and
faithfully endeavored ? to follow

A Queer Hybrid.
Wo have in onr office speci
mens of (i hybridized fruit that
will interest our horticulturists.
It was plucked Irom :i japonica
plant, and is evidently crossed
with the pear. This bush from
which t he fruit was picked stands
only a few feet from a large
pear tree, and shows in shape
and looks that it is hybridized
from the pollen of that tree.
We are indebted for this curi
osity to Mr. A. 1J. Young, of
DeKalb, S. C.. in whose llower
garden it appeared.
