General, Fitsh ugh Lee died on
Friday night as the result of" a
'stroke of apoplexy received in
the morning. He expired in a
Providence, R. I., hospital, re
taining consciousness ~up to a
hdlf hour before his death. * A
great man and soldier has joined
the silent hosts of heroes who
preceded him oh the other shore.
The nation, both North and
South has met with a loss. He
leaves a wife and five children.
The entire community sorrows
with Rev. Jabez Ferris in the
loss of bis wife, which sad event
occurred on April 17th, in a
Philadelphia hospital. Mrs. Fer
ris had been a confirmed uvalid
for fourteen .years.
Mrs. Sal lie L. Hughes, a most
highly respected resident of this
city died on the 2?th ult. at the
residence of.a relative, a Dr. or
Mr. 'fodd, Kobbins, is. C. She
leavfes a brother and sister, and
two 60ns to uiourn her loss.
Hdr remains were brought to
Camden on Sunday morning and
interred in the family burying
ground in the Quaker cemetery.
Our sympathy is extended to
the sorrowing relatives.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kunkle
man of this city departed this
life on April 30tli. She was a
God-fearirtg woman, at:d now
doubtless sees the light that
shines upon those who love and
feiir Him. The late Mrs. Kun
kletaan leaves a devoted hus
band to mourn her death, to
whom we extend pur sympathy.

Here it is. A man has been
found who kept his home and
grounds secluded, admitting not
even his closest relatives and
most intimate friends. It has
been discovered that he waa en
gaged in the novel business of
producing human heads on hogs
for museum freaics. The pro
cess was to begin with pigs at

iron mask on their heads, forcing

a human face; the molds being
carefully watched and nursed
until a hog with a human head
was ready for a fancy price.

for murder of his brother, Willie,

will so terminate.

Tremendous Wreck.
As the Ogden special, having
on board the party of Northern -
educators and others, was pass
ing Greenville on Saturday even
ing, it crashed into a number of
flat and box cars that were
standing on the main line. Four
persons were killed and many
badly injured, including Mfr.
Ogden. He is rightly much
wrought up over the incident,
and has demanded a full investi
gation. From the. newspaper
accounts, the accident is the re
sult of gross carelessness on the
part of the railroad authorities.

Kershaw Lynching Case.
Magistrate Caskey at Lancas
dismissed the parties under ar
rest who were charged with com
plicity in the Morrison lynching
at Kershaw some time ago. The
State presented no evidence, and
even if it had, we venture the
assertion that it would have been
discredited* We will have more
to say later about this matter as
a friend has promised to write us
a full account of how the delec
tible dispensary constables work
ed up the case against the ac
cused parties.

Some two years ago an
old negro living in the lower
portion of the county put in an
application for a Fqaeral pen
s.on. It was rejectsd five times
for various cause*, 'out trie agent
here who was working the case
up persisted, with the result that
a few days ago a pension warrant
for $500.00 was forwarded as
accrued pehsion with the infor
mation that the party had been
placed on the pension roll at
(12 per month.
