Editor of People : I see by
reading your paper, The People,
that yon are opposed to the
Dispensary Law and I as* at a
loss to know how a man of yonr
ability conld possibly be oppoeed
to eneh a good law. The only
reason that 1 have heard yoa
five was that when a man want
ed a drink he should net beeom
laelled to bay at least half pint.
[That 1 think is a verv weak rea
son, for I hare beard it said that
cue drink called for another
which I suppose W tree and if
H be true and as a a half pint
will make two drinks that woold
cause one to get both drinks at
once and thus save one trip to
the whisky shop and as time is
money It would be a saving to
get two drinks at once: New as
taxes are getting higher as each
year goes by and as our county
Board seem to have no limits as
to the county expense, I think
all deep thinking men like you
should be in favor of dispensary
few for this and various other
reasons that could be given but
which I will refrain from giving
now as I dislike to take up so
much of your valuable spacs.

sponse to the above that oar
chief objection to the Dispen
sary law is not based upon the
reason mentioned by our friend
correspondent. Our objections
embrace broader ground, pri
marily that the enactment of it
curtailed the privilege of the
citizen and converted the State?
into a greut debauching insti
tution the stigma of Which will
remain With us as a reproach
upon our children and our re
motest posterity. What we
want, and what we are going to
have in God's own good time is
either adsolute prohibition, or
high license coupled with a rea
sonable degree of Dispensary
restrictions.
