The People r-; A-N/rrvmsj- SOUTH CAHOT .TTTA^ DECEMBER 29. 1904 Sum and Jake. Saturday was a great day for the colored population, and Sam and Jake were very much in evi dence. Sam looked as slick as a peeled onion in his new suit that he had bought from Nathan Levy. Jake wore his everyday clothes as he brought over a remnant of cotton to put in with some one else to make a bale, and he knew that Mr. Vaughan, to whose ginnery he carried it would more than likely make him feed the gin. That liitle matter off his bauds, it wasn't loug before he joined Sam, and the two proceeded to take in the sights. From store to store tlioy went, takinjr in Hirscli Bros. <fc Co., David Wolf's, The Hub, M. Bantu's, W. Geisenhei liter's, where Jake bought an easy chair for lus old woman ; from there to Dr. F. Leslie Zemp's, Sam buying a bottle of Soothing Syrup for his new baby, then to the Gilt Edge to witness the drawing for the \>uggy, >and winding up at the great moral institution. Here Sam invested in a quart of "Mal lard," and Jake iii the samdi amount of "Two X." Jake then said to Sam, "Le'? y.u an' me git ter ourse'f, whar de Captain 'po'ter caint tin' us,, or he hab us in De People nex ^e6k sho. ' V Sfcirf Agreed, but.' our reporter got there all the same. Seeking a cosy corner, they were soon de&ply engaged in studying . astronomy, through the medium of their bottles. A good laugh may save you a doctor's bill, and while we have nothiug to say against the med ical fraternity, we rather incline to thiuk that all the members will be out to take a good dose of the same medicine. NOTE THE DATES. Prosperity. That prosperity is evident in the country was demonstrated last week by the throngs that made their appearance on our main thoroughfare. While cot ton is now low, no scarcity of money was noticed on. any hand. This was as it should be, but'our peoole must remember tiiat good times cannot always continue, so when you have a few extra dol lars;, don't fritter them away, but hoard them for the hard times that are sure to come. A Bountiful Cow. Fine live stock from a kitten to an elephant always attracts us, and it was with particular pleasure that we inspected on Monday the most beautiful speci men of a Jersey cow that we ever saw. She is owned by Mr. Ci. W. Crosby, an expert in fine cattle, and was a Christmas pre sent from friends from some where. This cow appears to be perfectly gentle, is a light canary in color with white points, and a beauty all over. We have not learned her milk and butter qual ities, but she is built for all kinds of purposes, useful as well as ornamental. The freight charges were not paid on her, but George says that she comes cheap at Three Dollars and sixty cents. E.S. NETTLES & SON. r.-f We hereby announce to the public that we have open ed ?
