Wood is as good as money to us in its season. l*a ktor Rc-callcd. Our liaptists certainly made strenuous efforts to retain Mr. Ferris in the pastorate here. After service on Sunday morn ing, the Chnrch weut into con ference and unanimously extend ed a call to Mr. Ferris. He, however, could not see ins way clear to an acceptance, and de clined it. This was a distinct, but adeserved compliment, and we for one, regret the outcome. Accldoiit to Mr. M. Damn. Mr. Mannes Baum met with a severe accident on a S. A. L. train last week. As he was leaving the dining car, his foot caught in a torn place in the carpet causa: g him to fall and dislocate his hi-p. He was brought on to Camden where the injured limb was given medical attention, and he is now doing very well. We are glad that he esca|>ed more serious injury, and hope to see him out agaiu soon. Now ItcMtiiiirnut. This will announce to the pub lic that we have decided to open a first class restaurant in the rear of the building occupied by our printing establishment. We will not be reidy for business until October 1st, after that date however, we hope to give you u good meal at all hours. This enterprise is not gotten up or entered into for the purpose of competing with any other res tuarant, buf. numbers of our up town friends and the bulk of the country people complain that it is too hard on them to go down town for a meal when all their business lies up town. Winyaw James, the old restau ranteur will be our chief cook which is ample guarantee of a square meal well cooked. Stun and Jake Book. Has ty, formerly president of the Vulcan Supply Works, is now superintending o|>erations at the Camden Cotton Mills. ?We were pleased to meet Mr. August Kohn of The News and Courier on Saturday. He was only up for a day on a visit to his sister, Mrs. Gus Hirsch. ?Dr. I. H. Alexander is im proving. We cannot yet say what the ultimate result ot his injury will be, but hope that it will not seriously and permanent ly injure him. ?Mr. E. F. Snyder, one of our popular photographers will he absent at St. L?ouisfrom Sept. 80th to Oct. 10th. He is a dele gate to the National Photograph ers Association to be held at that point between those dates. ?Old Uncle Samuel Meeks passed away on last Monday. Next to Uncle Jim Lang, Uncle Sam was our oldest inhabitant. He, (uncle Saui) was said to be 103 years old. j ?Mr. O. M. Port is just about finishing up lii* work on the new residences of Mr. W. O. Hay and Mr. C. C. Moore. It goes with out saying that when the work is done it will be well done, as evervone knows the quality of Mr. Port's work. ?Mrs. Alice Liightfoot of Col umbia, who has been spending some time with relatives and friends in Longtown and West Wateree has returned home ac companied by her sister Miss L?ula Moon when she will attfend school. ?Rev. Jabez Ferris of the Camden Captist church, leaves us to-day to enter on his new field of labor at Itatesbnrg. Batesburg's gain is Camden's loss. There is no better preach er, and we think no better man than Dr. Ferris, and all of us wish him God-speed ?Our new dress and get-up last week was complimented and appreciated on all sides.
