Cotton Mill Closed Down.
I'he Camden Cottton Mills
closed down on Tuesday for the
balance ol the season. The rea
sons given are the high price of
cotton and the low price of cot
ion goods. This shut-down is a
Jteavy blow to trade, and what
Is worse, heavier on the opera
tives, coining, as it does just in
the beginning of the dull season,
when work of any king is hard
to secdre. i
We are glad to learn that a
large number of the operatives:
liave secured work at the Lan- 1

the Mills in Columbia.

Work on The New Bank.
Work on the new bank build
qng "Is being pushed all along
Ihto line. It is really inspiring to
watch the stone-cutters and stone
masons at work. The stone cut
lers, with their setting mauls
knocking off the edges of the
rough stone, and with their chiz
<els rapidly transforming an nu
gainly mass of rock into a thing
of beauty, fit for the building,
And' the builders rapidly and
with precision putting tliem in
place.
The building, when completed,
will be a handsonc structure, a
credit to nil who are engaged in

Our community was deeply
pained to learn of tlio death
of Captuin Stephen C. Clyburu
which took place at his residence
in Kirkwood on Tuesday morn

been a great invalid for some
years, and for him death came
not as an enemy, butasa friend,
And while we may weep with the
afflicted relatives, we must re
joice that the spiritof our friend
is now where pain and sorrow
are no more.
Mr. Clyburn was at one timo

the angel spirit of little Kather

of spirit, "The Lord gave, and
