To all who read thin notice we say, do not delay to tftkeout insurance. We can never tell when the grim reaper may out us down; so, while in health, prepare for sickness anil death. We can look you as straight is the eye,- and takd as little of your money for your card as can any editor in the county. In addition to this equal advantage,' our paper circulates in us many homes as do those of our com* petitors, with the added advan tage to you that every word in our paper is rettd. National Convention. We see our name announced as a prominent candidate as a delegate to the National conven tion at St. Louis. As it happens, we do not cxpect to get the ele ction being a Hearst supporter, and all the fools not being dead yet. What we expect is a solid Parker delegation, ' and we are no Parker man by a long shot. Any candidate who cannot come out boldly and express his views on vital questions is no candidate of ours, although as a loyal Dem ocrat we will sup]K>rt any ticket nomiuated. . Nominate Parker however, and the ticket is al ready defeated . Take Notice. In our remarks in this issue concerning the two dispensaries, we want to say that we liavo no intention of reflecting upon the gentlemen conducting them. Both obey orders. If Capt. Bt?ll was ordered to inform Ina pa trons that the only place they could drink %their beer was on the platform ot the Opera House steeple he would have to tell them so. It is true, he would not sell any beer, but that silly /ten order is going to largely curtail the sale of it anyhow. ? If. Mr. Latig was notified to discontinue the useof the request book, he can obey, or not. If he olxy*, the sales at. the dispensa ry will be increased. If he does not. he will simply be obeyiug the law, aud should be com mended, as 1he law should be higher than an order from auy petty official. Unwarranted Aspersion. ? It has been suggested to us that no matter which way the vote for i5r against the Court House proposition is cast, the majority vote will be declared in favor of the Court House. This we consider to be an unwar ranted aspersion on the charac ters of the managers selected to conduct the election. Naturally, the largest part of the vote that will be cast in favor of the pro position will be at the Camden box, and we sincerely hope, and believe, that 110 one in his pro per senses will for a moment suspect such men as J. B. Ar rants, W. J. Jones and E. .1. Bis sell, the managers of election, to be guilty of such a nefarious act as is implied in the sugges tion mentioned.- Ng^we are go ing to have a fair election, the votes fairly counted, and the Court House scheme knocked into smithereens. Indication of Eheiirzcr Church. The dedication of Ebenezer Church came off on Sunday, aud was largely attended, at least xi hundred persous not. being able to obtain seats. The new church is a handsome editice and does credit to the builders. Rev. J. S. Beasley, P. E. assisted by the pastor of the church, Rev. Dukes couducted the dedication exer cises which were solemn itnd im pressive. Among the visitors present were. Messrs. J. S. Trantliam, D. P. Dixon, D. M. McCaskill,. . . R li. Williams, .7. M. It is customary in small cities for the various newspaper pub lishers to divide on county and city advertising, but we note that the Messenger lias publish ed the annual report of the Coun ty Treasurer, with not a word said to us about i*. We luive ascertained further that The Chronicle is to got one half of the sixty dollars allowed by law for the publication of the report We are told that we are <i little ton Irtlr in pelting into the deal al though our paper appears a day sooner than does the Chronicle. This will notify all advertisers that we will insert any ad. that bears a profit twenty per cent under any competitor. The genial laugh of our old friend, ?!apt. J. I. Villepigue, is again heurd on the streets, he having returned from a pleasant visit to his daughter, Mrs. C. M. Fur uiii n, at Clemson College. . An old chum of ours, Mr J. F. Jeffrey, representing the lirm of Beck & Gregg, of Atlanta, was with us on Thursday. Jeff, is a capita* fellow. We only charge him a good j>ocket knife for say ing so. Blissful ignor ance! Ditto as to Dave Hayes, of West Wateree. 9 Messrs. S. W. Heath and Jno. T. Stevens, of Kershaw, were with us on Saturday. We regret that we did not meet them, but no doubt they were on business and not pleasure bent, so had no time ?o give us in the way of warming the cockles of their hearts. ] Mr. W. F. Gantt. (Larry) a popular tobacco salesman, of Reidsville, N. C. was in tl^e city on Monday. He left us impress ed with the profound necessity of talcing out a' life insurance policy iu the shape of a years subscrip tion to The People, but did not do it. We have met with almost un animity of opinion among the voters as to the projier site for a new court house, but several have said that they intend to vote for it anyhow on general principles. NVe cannot see it that way. If the time of the court is wasted in the transpor tation of prisoners from the jail to the present court house then give us positive assurance that the new one will bo built on its proper site. We want to bo purtecily frank with all our readers, and when ever oar views come in contact with yours, the columns of The People are always open to yon for reply.
