Jtpso, a gioop of tdands nt nsted on the eastern coast of Asia, consist of Hondo, Nephon, Kiushu, Shikoku and Yeso. The capital i Tuloyo, is on the Largest Island, Hondo. The tahabitanta are Japanese. Be cause they are so small, they are tall the ? 'little Jape." They are an industrious and prosper ous nation. The exports of Japan are tea, silk, mats, mattings, etc. Jap anese silks are the finest made. The diacription of a Japanese is much like a Chinese. The women plait their hayr in a cue like the Chinese, but the men cut theirs. They dress so much alike, it is hard to distinguish them. Although their slanting eyes have a sleepy look, they are ev er ready to defend their rights. Japan is now at war with Rus sia; it is called the Russo-Japan ese War. It is about Manchu ria and Corea. The United States will see that Manchuria is preserved to China. So far 'Japan carries the victories. Etta Dixon. Age 14; 1st year High School. JAPAN ' Japan lies on the coast of Asia, and consists of the islands of Hondo, Niphon, Kuishv, Shiko Roe and Yezo, and many other smaller islands. The capital is Tokyo, and it is called the Paris of Japan. y The climate of Japan is mild ?ard moisted, and is tempered by the Japan current. The principal products are rice, silk and tea. Japan has good harbors, but not until 1846 were they opened to the world- Before that they would not let any other nation come in, but now she is civilized and is glad for any one to come in and to trade with her. The religion of the Japanese is Buddhism, but now, since the harbors are opened, a great many Miasionarya have been over there, and a great many have become Christianized. Japan is hoted all over the world for way the the^ fight, and it is thought that she will win in the war, although Russia is such a large empire. Alice Corbett. Age. 14; high school, 1st year. D.
