Honor ahoyld be taM ?? In
M^pnbli fM truthful way;

I^ vordot WttWj T<m ought
to * tan your Word of honor; bal
many parsons give their honor
for th^ time being only, and
- often never think of what they
are saying. ' Therefore they do
not think of honor in the right
If yon are , living in a house
with a great many younger sis-'
ters and brothers, you ought al
way a good example to them
and be honorable, because, being
younger, they generally pattern
^fter yon.
George Washington was a very
honorable man, to his country
and to everything in everv way
Lee also was a very honorable
jnan; he teok the Confederate
? /?i0e of the civil war, because he
thought he was right. Napoleon
Ponaparte was a dishonorable
.man; so was Benedict Arnold; ho
was a traitor to his country; he
thought there was not enough
credit paid to him, therefore he
was dishonorable to his country
and to himself.

THE HORSE.
Of all the animals in the world
the horse is considered the most
intelligent and most useful. The
family consists of mules, don
keys, zebras and the highest of
all, the horse. I will give an il
lustration of their intelligence in
the following story: Every
night as two horses came home
for the night, the groom would
water them. One day the groom
forgot to ' leave water in the
trough for them. They had
watched him attentively every
evening as he pumped the trough
full, so they went to the pump
and carefully raised it up and
down until it was full.
Another incident 1 am going
.to tell is that of a cruel driver
and a gentle horse. The ili-jver
had stopped for a few minutos*
and, on getting in his cart, gave
the horse a cut and a harsh word,
but the horse stood still. Just
then a kind man* came up to the
horse and, with a kind word the
horse trotted off as if his load
was nothing. A kind word is
,jmore than any whip.

HONOR.
Te be honorable is to bo true
<ind trustworthy. Tho word hon
orable means integrity.
Every one should teach little
..children honor by sotting a good
example. I have heard little
children assert in school to their
teacher, "well, mama does it,"
if it is said to bo dishonest.
That should teach mothers, if
they hava any pride, to set their
children good examples, because
they are often exposed to 11m
people .
It ia dishonorable to say, "I
will stand by my country whether
it ib right or wrong." A man
should stand up for what he be
lieves to bo true ancl honorable.
For instance, Arnold was very
dishonest, and I am glad to say
that ho is the only noted dishon
est man that our country ever
produced, while our list, of noted
honest men is much larger.
Washington, Leo and matiy
others aro noted in history for
their honesty.

Ice is water frozen into crys
tals. It is formed by water freez
ing in winter, but in summer it
has to go through a process of
being heated to so great, an es
tent that it freezes. Ice Is very
nsetful in sickness, especially
fever; it is also used for cooling
water in summer.
In the polar regions the suf j
/eritig from ice is very intense,

Ice is very pretty sometimes,
for instance take whaa ittreeaoa
on tree* (as we tavt U'oow);
icicles hang from bo?n and al
together it gives a crystal effect
to all the surrounding' scenery.
Ice als^ comes down in the form
of sleet in winter and tfail in
summer.
At one period of the earth, . a
glacier came down fromthe north
pole, to the Ohio river in America
and as far as the Scandinavian
peninsular in Europe. It made
the great lakes, left bolder drum*
lins and terminal - moraines,
borne glaciers are found in the
Alps, which people are very of
ten lost in them and big St. Ber
nard dogs have to find them.

Suing A. C. L. Line for $5,000.
Mr. E. L. Richardson, formerly of
Oolumbia, but now ft member of the
Greenwood 'bar, has brought suit
against tbo Atlantic Coast Line for
$5,000 actual and puni tire damages be
cause he was ajected from one of the
company's trains last fall about three
Allies from Latta, m Manqn county. ?
The oase involves a new and untested
point, which is of some general inter
est, not only throughout this State but
in other States. Mr. Richardson held
a ticket to Latta, but the train which
he boarded for that point was limited
so far as that station was ooncerned,
and the conductor, according to the
complaint, refused to stop the train to
let him off. Instead the train was
stopped three miles out of Latta, where
he was ejected, Mr. Richardson claims
that the road's agent, of whom he
bought the tickct, was required by law
to notify him as to what train he
should take, and that this was not
done, lie claims that even if notifica
tion were not required, it was the
right, natural and proper thing lor the
conductor to let liiui oil' at his station ;
that it was as easy to stop the train at
the station as three miles beyoud it
and that failure tf do so was vindictive
aud malicious.
