Thirty arc in attendance ; and a more advanced elass of pupils must make the routine of school duties less irk some to this popular teacher. -A much needed and ornamental ticket ollice is being erected at the entrance of the Fair grounds. It is a great improvement on thc old box,! which, by its appearance, never al- < lowed many into the inside. A dastardly atteint was made on Friday night to throw the passenger train that left this city at 4 o'clock p. m. for Charleston oil the track, when about live miles this side of Branch ville. The train was going at the usual rate of speed, when the engineer discovered, by the light from the en gine, a croas-tio placed across the truck. Ile instantly reversed the 1 engine an.i slackened the speed but not in time to prevent running against the obstruction with such force as to break the engine in some of its parts, and cause a shock and an ' alarm to the passengers on board. It i was fortunate the engineer saw the ob- i struction in time, for had the train been running at its accustomed speed, I it would have been thrown off, and marry of the passengers would have been killed and wounded. SOUTH li A STE KN ADV OCATE. There hs soon to he a paper entitled as above, issued from this ollicc, and pub lished in the interests of thc M. E. Church in this portion of our work. Since the unwise removal of the Charleston Advocate, our work luis been enlarging and extending in this feet iou, and demands multiplying for a local or gan. The Charleston Advocate was for two years published in Charleston. It was ?luring this eventful period in the history of our cause in the South, one ol the most important auxiliaries of our work. Its removal left a vacant place here which has not silice been libed. It is an old saying, "that blessings brighten j as they take their flight." This was ctn phatieally true in reference to our da per i for this coast. Many were taken by sur prise at its sudden removal and were ; anxious for its return. If we had been I as fully advertised of the wants and wishes of thc people in this section, be fore the tran.-fer of that paper to Atlanta, (ia., as we were tilter it was done, it would never heve gone from us. Thc Mi thodist Advocate is a good paper and ably conducted, but it is too distant from the Atlantic coast to meet our local wants in this section. Our work on this eoast ttillcrs in some particulars from our work in tin; section nf Atlanta, or thc valley of the Mississippi. It.s peculiar phases can not bc met by those who live at a dis tance from lis, and are nut conversant with thc exigencies ami demands of this section. The people will have greater interest lor Their Own Paper, that live- and Sympal bi/e- wit li I helli I hail eau bc awakeded lor om: coming to them from a distance, ami managed bj* com- | pa rat ve strangers.
