RENOVATOR FOX OLD OAK.
Everybody nowadays knows that
to secure a bright polish on an old
oak chcBt or table there is nothing
to equal elbow grease.
In our grandmothers' days, however,
it was elbow greaao plus one of
their wonderful and efficacious
home-made mixtures. Half a pint
each of malt, vinegar and raw
linseed oil were mixed with a
couple of drains of butter of
antimony. This formed a polish
which, after a good shaking
could . be .rubbed on fhe old wood
without, fear of spoiling the color
while it brought about a bright and
glistening result, far leas smean
than the warm beer which was th<
eld-fashioned farmhouse renovstoi

A larga whaling station is to bs

that Ids value has appealed to man.
Inasmuch as this species of whale
attracted no attention when hundreds

chasiny the sperm whales in the fa:
north it 13 perhaps eminently proper
that the industry us now carried on
should he entirely devoid of the romance
end excitement that attended
the chase of sperm whales. The
modern whaling steamer with bomb
gun# and other modern equipment
goes out from a station, the whale
is killed and the en re ass is towed in
and converted into oil with a total
absence of any of the feature# that
attended the killing and trying out
process in the old days Portland
