A SET BACK (
We certainly hope that our south- 1
ern representatives will succeed in
squashing the attempt to put an im- x
port tax on postash salt. The far- j
mers are just now beginning to crawl .
and are still mere infants in their
line and such a tax will serve only
as a serious "set back" to their further
advancement and to the advance- I
ment of other dependent industries.
SOMETHING DOING.
It looks as though the crop of'
"fur" which has been allowed to
grow out again on the dispensary ^
grafters is in imminent danger of
being torn out again. The Supreme 1
Court has reversed the decision of
Judge Pritchard and the disposition
of the whole matter comes back
into the hands of the state. So if """

The baseball season is open and

There is no game in existence that
is calculated to excite more intense

In a previous issue we ventured ^

if an annual Musical Festival in
Columbia. "A music lover being

He does not believe that any other
city in the south could succeed in I
the Musical Festival business like

that have already taken place.
We did not mean any reflection upDn
the Spartanburg Festival but we
still do not see why Columbia could
not produce an entertainment equal
with if not better than Spartanburg.
There is but one thing that we as- !
sume in making this statement, that
there are enough sensible people in
Columbia to see the great advantage
such an entertainment will be to the
