CROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO
TEXAN,
Suntfay morning. April 21?t, 1902. I
slurtvd mi inv journey from CuroliiiH
to Texa*. .lust as the buii uegnn to
show hia glorious splendor in the eastern
canopy of Heaven, I hade my
friends in Carolina good-bye and east
mine eves in a western direction.
While the wheels of the train rattled
over the rails my lieai t was made to
feel sad in leaving my native State.
For some time my head was rest tug
on the ear chair, and 1 was t hndii.ii,..
of a mother's love. At lust I began to
see the world around me and lor sometime
Illy eyes rest* d upon the heauty
of nature. Sunday evening while the
sun was going down beyond the western
hills, my eyes were looking across
the A pallidum) - svstain, wljicii
eemcd to bo a umnuinenl of glory erected
by the band of (Jod In behalf of
His children. The beautiful rays f the
siiii seemed to fa I upon the mountain
as an evening kiss of love, whid) caused
the observer to wander In his mind's
eye and see his mother's I initio. A?
the greater lights sent beyond the
western hills, Irom the eastern clime
gently rose the lesser light wlueli
seemed to kiss the stars and say : "Let,
your beuuly shine " 1 looktd upon
her sweet lace until my eyes failed
me, and no more beauty 1 saw that
night. 1 took a stroll to dreamland
and couOded in u mother's love, which
ubot'lids with Joy and peace.
MONDAY:
On Monday morning as I arose trom
my slumber, my eyes beheld the sun
bia'zing it pi n (leorgia soil. 1 ?peiu
Moaiiay morning in Atlanta viewing
that beautiful city's resources. Among
many things I saw tlie Empire building.
I w? nt through i'. As iliegreat
elevator carried us thr ugh fourtet u
stories ot rock and iande i as on the
top of the binding, I le t as if were
viewing from (Jape lookout; and uicu
on the ground seemed to be only boys.
Looking in all directions 1 could see
the hoii-.es, for the c ty was ever bclore
us. Monday evening I bide
'ieargiit farewell and seated upon the
iron hur-e passed into Tennessee. Arriving
at Chattanooga I once again
viewed the mountains The "<?ivnt
Smoky Mountain.-" they are called.
However, 1 saw instead ot smoke
| something which I supposed to be the
smokestack, which looked as if it

iliis smoke-stack were many garden*

came on. my eves were closed, and into
dreamland 1 traveled.
TUESDAY:
Tuesday morning I found myself in
Alabama Birmingham is a beautiful
city, siluated between the Coosa ami
black Warrior rivers. In Alabiint I
saw only beautiful bills and rippling
springs 01 clear water. My next iitaU
to visit was Mississippi Nothing
beautiful did 1 see except the inarsbj
swamps mi d spleiidnut trees. Tin
trees were pleasant to view, becausi
upon them was a green foliage. Wliei
I left Carolina tilt-trees were clothei
hi winter's blanket. In contrast llit
trees of M ississippi weee laden w|t(
the glory of spring.
wkdnksdiy :
Wednesday morning 1 landed id
Memphis. This is a beautiful city
situated rib a high biu.T east of ?j
Mississippi river. As tlie train crossec
the great river the old iron engi n
seemed to run with a steady nerve
realizing that k.?neatli were {he deej
waters. As I viewed the t astern hunki
of ths river L saw several vessels anchored
in the harbor wailing for tin
signal to say, go. The next State was
Arkansas, but 1 never saw tnuch nit
til 1 reached l.ittle Hook. It luigbi
have been because I was tired of nsiui
my eyes and was running cliiu music'
with a Carolina girl. Of cm.r-e v?
bad plenty of girls, because our trail
?vas chartered. A charter would hi

with it in some manner.
