Last week will go down in history as
one of the most disastrous our country ,
haa ever been called upon to pass i
through. The llrst of a number of '
great calamities to shock the public

property in the West by Hoods, The
horror of the disasters in tliut section
was still upon us when the scene of
destruction and devastation was
brought nearer bonne?to the State of
Georgia, and ere the story hnd been
fully told or the dead rescued from the
ruins of the Gainesville mills, which
fell a victim to the cyclone, our own
State had the hand of misfortune laid
heavily upon it. Clifton Olend le ,
and Pacolet, prosperous mill towns in
a prosperous county, where industry
ruled aud a thrifty, honest people
I lived, wsre laid waste by rushing
waters in the gray dawn?their t.ulustries
crippled, ruined, aud precious i
lives paid the price of life?death. The j

read it a feeling of deepest sympathy 1
swells within us for the unfortunate
beings whose homes are broken and
whose all has gone save trust in Him ,

and that the property damage at the {

has issued an appeal to the people, '

be cared for by loving bands. The ]
men who lost their money in these mills :
will prove equal to the sore test they '
are now undergoing, and tlie same '
dauntless energy that made ttieiu far. j
