have given us but little in ihe way of
news save graphic accounts of the
hurling of hundreds of souls into
eternity and the loss of millions of
dollars by flood and wind. Men.

boasted of beauty are now but wrecks,
the ruina standing as a monster monument

touch the hearts of all when the descriptions

Several of the leading journals in
the State have uiade changes recently.
The Spurtanburg;lierald will be edited
by Mr. W. Zach McUec, who has bet n
with the News and Courier and also
editor of The Educational. The tireen- <
ville News editorial department will
be in charge of Mr. R. IV. Simpson,
Jr. lie too is a young man of energy
and bus served bis apprenticeship on
the News and Courier. Senator J. II:
Purefoy has purchased the Press and
Standard of Walterboro. Editor Warren
continues ut the masthead. Senator
Purifoy is known here as "Jiui'
and the entire town rejoices ut the '

State institutions of learning have
