Death of an Old Negro.
There died near Iietsville a few
days ago one of the best negroes who
ever lived in this section. Nearly
every man, woman ami Otilld know
uncle Enoch Prater. He was at the
time of his death nearly 85 years old,
Ue was much respected by all wlui
knew him and his character should
be emulated l>y his race.

The marriage of Mr. D. It. ltawl and
MissGlp-sie Covin, two of our town's
popular young peofie,occurred Sunday
evening at the Methodist parsonage.

generally known that the groom was
"paying court", but no one expected
the happy event to occur so early.
The bride is an excellent young lady
of winsome address and lias a host of
friends here. The groom is one of our
most energetic young business men.

Mr J. I. Sir Hit to Leave Us.
All Rateshurg regret to lose Mr. J.
I Smi.h and his excellent family, who
nave been with us for the past three
years, during which time they liave
endeared themselves to our entire
people. They desired to remain here
but Mr. Smith's position with the railroad
company made it necessary to
change. We will be glad to have
them among us,as resident or visitors,
at any lime. They are assured of a
hearty welcome. We commend them
to the good people of Allendale as
most excellent citizens and they may
count tbelli selves fortunate in liaxing
them.

We arc In receipt of a copy of the
Oca I a (Fla.) Evening Star, which contains
quite a lengthy account of the
! marriage of Mr. Richard llolstein to
M Us Mary B. Pyl.s. Mr Hoistein,
whose home is near Monettn,
left us only two weeks ago to return
to Florida, where he is engaged in
melon raising. That there was a mar
riage in prospect was unknown to his
many friends. The Star devotes a
great deal of space to the brilliance ol
the affair, describing the bride's costume,
the floral decorations, the presents
received and the guests in attendance.
Among the latter we note generals,
coioneis, captains, doctors and
; professors. From the account given
I by the Star it was a swell affair. Wr
I wish fur Richard and his bride a life of
happiness, and it is our wisli that they
will soon make their home in the old
Palmetto State, llis friends extend to
him and his bride through the Advocate

occurred on Sunday, October 29th.
