Senator-elect 1*. L.Hardin, of Chester, visited his brother. Dr. E. K. Hardin last week. Senator llardin has represented his countj several times in the House und made for himself .... ,1,1., piienril The neonte of his county demonstrated their appreciation of Ins services by elevating him "to the Senate without opposition. We I eel sure that ho will reflect honor and credit upon his county and upon himself, and [are conlldeut that one so worthy will in time be highly honored l>y his State. The State Fair is over and so far as our knowledge goes was a success. It is evident tlint there must he some attractions to draw the people, and these w ith the fair must be advertised. Make everybedy think everybody else is coining to the fair. When that is done the fair w ill be a success, for after all, the people form the greatest attraction at lairs. It makes no difference how excellent the exhibits may be, people will not attend unless they think there is going to he a crowd. Humanity is ?o constructed that they like to come III contact wit It their neighbors and it is well that way, because we sometimes learn our best lessons by meeting with our fellows. With an eye single to the prosperity of Clemson we trust that the time will soon be when there will be at the head of that Cadet Corps a commandant capable to fill the oftk-e. Our good friends over in the Fork should be careful in their deliberations concerning annexation to Richland county. It should be remembered that Columbia holds the control of Kichlnml county by her large voting population. She can predominate in both political and financial affairs, und should the ruik nil nu Uiiwiiinj', n H we Sfl' 11, anil cast their lot with Richland they would be entirely dependent upon the good vrill of uiighty Columbia. We do not mean to say that Columbia would use the power thus gained unwisely and unselfishly, but wo do say that a people are not free when they are dependent oa the acts of a predominating power. We have heard it said that certain prominent county ofllciuls of Richland have left their duties in their own county in order that they might engage in the magnanimous occupation of Instructing the people of the Fork in tne defective government of their county. Shall this labor go unrewarded? We trust not. When this question oomes to a vote, if ever it does, let the citizenship of the Fork turn out en masse and say to those disinterested workers, we need no foreign assistance nor alien guidance iu the conduct of our county government. Since writing the above, we have been informed that the citizens of the Dutch Fork have Indefinitely postponed consideration of the movement. This is well, and we hope that every part and parcel of our great old county will bend every energy to make it the most prosperous, and best governed, of any in the sis terhood of comities.
