Our community seems to be unable t<

like that takes place we shall let the
public know.
Would it not be a good time now to
tell what I've been thin'iiug about fur
along time? It'snbout public roads.
I do honestly wonder why there are so
many water breaks in tlie souds. 1
like terraces, but the place for them is
in ynids aud field'| not in the
roads. 'Tis not so bad fur wagons and
log carts to go over water-breaks, but
it is hard on a buggy, and harder on
travellers. Sometimes I think if road
overseers had to travel moro they
would l)fl"j?h water-til eaks. Some
counties do not allow them at all.
Once, coming from Newberry, on a
rainy day, the roads were Lad enough;
but on down grades the horse could
trot a little?there were no waterbreaks,

county, instead of mud as the only
hindrance there was one of those lute,
ful things every hundred varils or
thereabouts. It is so. Why it is so, I
can not tell. It ought to bo otherwise.
That I know, f'aluda county is one
of progre-s, gold, grit and intelligrnce;
why can she not be ope of good rojids?
She held a good read mass-meeting
last fall, and discussed ways and means
by which we can have good roads. It
was a step In the right direction. A
ueai was sniu nbiuit road tax ami convicts.
The Legislature's approprin-'
tions will tax thy cQrp-huving larrner
enough, and while we wail for pon
icts the roads need attention?tlie
special attention of Supervisor and
overseers, and the general attention of
all well citizens. Too many people art
exempt anyway. A Ofty?year?old
raaa is young in this age of skilled
physicians and patent medicines.
Why should he not he caked to work

A citizen, mar here, did a good thing
