WAR WORK PLEDGES
Only Few Remain Unpaid?Excellent
Showing Made.
. > i
Mr. John T. Sox, manager of the '
Lexington branch of the Bank of Western
Carolina, in charge of collections
for the Lexington quota of
the funds for the United War Work
campaign, reports that there remain
in the town rf Lexington only two un
redeemed pledges, one for $5 and one j
for $25. Of those outstanding in the
country only a few remain unpaid and
it is expected that some of those will
be paid as soon as the fall season
opens. The showing made by Lexinginton
in redeeming the War Work
pledges has been splendid, but Mr. Sox
would like, if possible, to be able to
report 100 per cent, paid, though the
showing made places the county in
the front rank of those which have
kept their obligations.
HEAVES IN HORSES,
The common causes of heaves are
bulky -foods, indigestible foods and
foods which ferment easily. Dusty
hay is harmful and may cause heaves.
Symptoms?The most prominent
symptoms are a dry and abortive
cough, and a jerky movement of the
flank- These symptoms are more noticeable
after a drink of water or after
the animal has been excited by
work.
Treatment?'There is no specific
for heaves, but the distressing symptoms
can be relieved by special feeding
add by medicinal agents. Give
less ay and dampen it with water.Do
not use a hay rack, but place the hay
on the floor.lt is advisable to feed the
hay at night.
* * I
The affected animal should be given
one ounce of Fowler's Solution three I
times a day. |
