executive committee met Monday in
the office of Judge C. M. Efird, county
chairman, for the purpose of appointing
managers and transacting
other business in connection with the
forthcoming primary election to nominate
a successor to Hon. A. F. Lever,
resigned.
Under the provisions of the act
'
it passed at the last session of the legislature
the provisions of the Australian
ballot were extended to the rural
, districts, and it will be necessary to
""provide booths for every precinct
which at the last election polled 50
or more votes.
The election will be held on Tuesday,
the 26th of August. The entries
;closed Monday, with the nnai nst 01 |
candidates as. follows: #
George Bell Timmerman, Lexington.
Colin S. Monteith, Columbia.
John Hughes Cooper, Columbia.
? H. P. Fulmer, Orangeburg.
Ed. C. Mann. Calhoun.
John T. Duncan, Columbia.
.
In the event of the necessity of a
second primary it will be held September
9. /
The general election will be held
October 7. Cole D. Blease has announced
his intention of being a candidate
in the general election.
Judge Efird urges all Democrats to
be sure that they are provided with
registartion certificates for the general
election. Under the law it is
necessary that registration certificates
should bear a date subsequent to
July 1, 1918, as the law required a
registration of all voters after that
date. Registration certificates which
were valid in the last general election
will ho.ld good for a period of ten
ye'rs. For the convenience of all who
desire to provide themselves with registration
certificates, the county board
of registration has arranged an itin
erary to cover all pats of the county.
-On the first Monday in October the
books "will be open ot the court house.
