There are a couple of tenement bouses in
' Cherry street, N. Y., which coutaiu an aggregate
of 900 souls?440 adults and 400 children

deepest regret that an outrage against tho peace and
dignity of tho Town has been perpetrated by certain*
parties unknown to tho Council, and they: hereby de-'
prccate and discountenancot all such unlawful proceedings
as subversive of good order.
Resolved, That no citizen who has tho welfare of the
community at. neart can witness sucu scenes wunoui
feeling alarmed for the consequencos.
The OounciLthereforo respectfully solicit thpir aid
in preventing a recurrence of similar lawless acts.

The circumstances attending its loss are as follows
During the fire at the residence of Mrs. DoUons, the
pistol was placed under cover in ond of the rooms of
dwelling for safr keeping, whilst the owner was using
his exertions in quenching the flames of the out building
; apd on returning, the pistol had been taken f>om
its place of deposit. The aboye reward will be paid,
with the gratefui thanks of the owner For further

and vicinity, any and all persons having provisions
in their possession are earnestly requested to send
their surplus to this point Jor sale or distribution to
the needy. It is known to all that the enemy in his
course let very ew horses or mules, and in many
places aifthe provisious wero taken; so that those
who may have a surplus to dispose o have no means
o getting it to market.
There are a large number o persons liviug in tm>
town able to purchase supplies, bat they-'are not to
bo bad at any price, and unless help conies rom
Abroad vreat suffering'must insue.
Persons cafr deliver provisions o any kind on the.
Railr.ml and they will be brought up and delivered to
Mr. .Tames Dunlap, Intendant o the town, who will
sell or distribute as the owner may direct.
It is requested also that persons uear tho Railroad
will send up wood by the trains, as it is impossiblo
or many to be supplied by the ew wagons around.
All articles sent up to Mr. Dunlap will be promptly
