certain amount of money was paid. Martin
told him to go home with him and he

As soon as Henckley answered be was
knocked down by Martin, with a knife in

himself, he drew his pistol and fired at
Martin three times without effect They
then clinched with pocket knives. Martin

We find the following account of the '
recent robbery, and arre-t of tho thieves
in Waltcrboro, in The Waltcrboro News : *
O ie of the most daring burglaries ever
committed in this county, was perpetrated
on Friday night of last week. About ^
11 o'clock in the night the robbers broke
open the back door of Messrs. Terry and
Shaffer's store, and succeeded in carrying
off over two huudred dollars worth of dry
goods and a few pair of shoeR. They also
stole some small change in the money

The goods they carried in bags to the
fo.ksofthe Green Pond road, where they !
loaded them in an ox cart. <
They wore discover* J before they had

light enough to fol'ow the tracks pursuit
was made, hut the thieves wc~c not over- 1

same plantation on Tuesday were driven 1
off the place by the colored penp'c. On
Thursday & force of severity five mounted
mm under the command of Sheriff *
Iflack, proceeded to the plantation and
made the arrests; also capturing the partics
who had resisted the officers a few
days previous. About twenty men were t
found posted across a small trestle, which
looked as though resistance was to made. '
The ^Sheriff promptly ordered twenty- ,

Washington, March 6.?The friends 1

the Senate. He thinks that Pinchback j .

Mr. Blaine said he had a resolution in
