The strength of the Fedora! Union, as
affected by the abolition fanaticism, wii! no
doubt be tested the Session of Congress next
winter and spring. The abolition papers
and traveling agents "have been urging their
party throughout the summer to send on to
Congress as many and as strong petitions
as possible against the annexation of Texas
to the Union, on the ground that it would
extend slavery. These petitions have been
pouring in daily during the present extra
session, and are piled upon tine table. They
will be culled tip in December, and advocated
probably by some of the leading

Indian Council.?Signing the Treaty.?
\ esterday, after a long talk by the Indian do

entered into between the Hon. Secretary

and the Sioux deputation, was 6igned by the
contracting parties, in the presence of a very
large company of ladies and gentlemen. The
terms c? the treaty, which we may hereafter

proposed by the Government, of which we published
an accurate statement on Thursday
last. Several gentleman were on the platform
during the ceremony of signing the treaty,
amon? whom we noticed the Hon. Secretary
of the?Navy and the Hon. Secretary of the

When the Indians stood round the Secretary

they concluded the treaty, shook hands with
