making an annual volume of 416 pages, at $2
a year, payable in advance.
The 2d vol. of the Monthly Genesee Farmer
also commences on the first of January.
It is published on the first of each month, 16

The Richmond and Fredricksburg rail road
is now finished from the former city to within
one mile of Fredricksburg, and it is to be put
forthwith into active and regular use for the
conveyance of passengers and trade.
Tallahassee, Jan. 4.
Tie War.?We have been informed by
Col. Wyatf. who left Tampa Bay on the
22d ult. that Gen. Jesup was at that place.
Th# General had scoured the country on
the Withlacoochee?searched the Wahoo
Swamp, and found no Indians. The enemy,
it is believed, retreated to the South immediately
aftor the battle of the 21st. Gen.
Jesup is engaged in establishing a line of
posts across the Peninsula, with a view of
pre venting the return of the enemy upon our
frontiers, and to relieve the inliabitants from
the apprehension of any present danger from
their lawless incursions. He intends to
march against Oseola, as soon as his plans
are properly matured. From all we are at
present able to learn, we think that it the
entire subjugation of our foes is not speed,
ily effected, the Territory will at least be
relieved from the fear of any future deprcd.

The Banks have now ordered to the Legislature
all their statements, but the ease an.

Yesterday, the offering at the discounting
Banks were twice the usual amount, but the
facilities were as sparingly handed out as ever.
There is not the slightest reduction in the
interest of money, or the state of domestic ex.
changes. Two and three per cent, are as
?eadiJy received as ever for good paper?and
exchanges on the South are back to nearly the
old rates.
One of the principal causes of the continuance
of the high rate of interest, is the competition
made by the real estate speculators for
'the loans of floating capital.
After four years of labor and preparation*
'the Parisians have succeeded in raising and
.placing upon its j*edestal, in the Place de la
Concorde, the Obelisk from Thebes. This
Obelisk is seventy-two feet high, and weighs
550,000 pouuds; and is elevated upon a
granite pedestal twenty-five feet high. It is
said that 200,000 persons attended the spectaclo
of elevation, which was performed
by means of ten large cables, with pulleys
worked by ten captsans, at which were
stationed three hundred men.

Flour.?We continue to qnote the store price
of Howard st. Flour at $10 50, and the waggon
price at $10 95 per barrel. City Mills Flour is
held firmly at $10 for standard, and $10 25 for
extra.

THE public arc informed that the Rov. R.
W. BAILEY, Pqstor of tho Presbyterian
Church, is appointed Rector of the Schools of
Darlington. There are two Schools, one for
males, the othor for females, and aiull course of
instruntion will be furnished for each, under his
personal euperintcndancc. The first quarter
mintucnces on tho first Monday in January.
Tuition at the usual rates. Good boarding is
'urnislied in the village, at moderate prices, un3er
