On the 12th inst. Mrs. Sarah Lyons, aged
70 years. The deceased was a native of Chesterfield
District, South Carolina but emigrated
to this Parish twenty-two years ago, and lost
her husband in 1818, since which time she has
been successfully engaged in agricultural pursuits.
She was a lady of great firmness ot

reason to believe, that she is gone to receive

improved uniform scries of elementary books, and . ^
stimulating native talent, by securing to authors ;
the publisher's profit on other than school books. ; r
The plan is, the organization of a company j p
with sufficient capital to publish all books written | p
bv native authors, which may lv approved by a i p
committee of publication, at the risK of the com- r
panv, who shail pay over to the author all profit
on the sales, after deducting the printer's char- ^
ges and incidental expenses, ,
It is proposed to manufacture the paper used
in printing, and thus to save the expense of dry- jj
ing it for market, putting it into bundles, trans. ^
portationlo market, commission, interest and ^
guaranties, equal at least to twenty per cent., i ^
A greater saving can be made by the employ,
ment ofboys in composition, printing and bind- ?
ing. This, with the profits on periodicals, re- j
prints, and elementary hooks, will secure to the
stockholders a good dividend.
By requiring each clerk, foreman, papermaker, | j:
journeyman, proof-reader, and all others connect- ( *

This feature will be rigidly enforced, and in case !
any one in the employment of the Company shall

Agencies will be established in the large cities,
where the Company's books can always be had ' ^
at the wholesale prices. Booksellers, and country
merchants who sell books, now pay a profit to
the paper nviker, another to the printer, and
a third to the publishers. Those who subscribe
stock in tliis Company will receive book? at their
cost, rating the printing at the New York prices, t

ing understood that the dividend on their stock, ! .
to the amount of six per cent, per annum only, |
shall be charged as interest and that all dividend I
above six per cent, shall be paid to such stockhol- j
ders. The Compnny thus guarantee to booksel- ( .
lers a dividend of G per cent, per annum on the j
amount of their stock, and the paper maker's prof,

Inasmuch as the sale of school books is much !

more on the publisher, the Company will divide j
the profit with the author or compiler on all ele- |

authors and compilers on the same footing; and
inasmuch as the company will have no interest |
in the copy right beyond a contract for the ex- i
elusive right to publish until a better or improved
