(in Engish, from seventeen to two hundred

As if tho passion hail infected every man,
the roost unfortunate aro seen at this diver
sion; a doaf and dumb man waa there, con
versing eagerly by signs, and a moot help
less boing, a roan of forty, whom I havo of
ten seen in the street in tho arms of a negro
incapable of walking, wos carricd to the

Self-loading Car.?The Richmond Com
piler contains a notice ot an cxcavator or
rclf-loadingcart, invented by Mr. W. Beach,
of Philadelphia. It it described at loading
itself in Its progress by means of one of the
whet-Is, which is hollow, taking up 40 square
feet of earth in one minute. This is carried
? o any distance as in a common cart; and
? lie load deposited or unloaded in less than
lialf a minute* without trouble, by opening
the bottom of the cart. The inventor states
Ihnt one of hU carts Is now at work on the
rail road within "a mile ami a half of the
ttchuylki'l river, near Philadelphia; that it
N worked by a man aod a bey, andj three
horses, and removes and embanks in a day
twice as much earth as is removed by three
