sylvania, has the following remark*,

gainst tife re-election of Governor Shultz,

ence of his station in favour of one of the

Suppose the Governor had listened to the

European of the very best kind. We wish
him heartily success in his schenv.*; but wc
mc no good reason why he should confine
himself, or particularly devote himself to
the yMiug students of the episcopalian pur
suasion, Surely the presbytcrian and oth
er descriptions of religionists among its, stand
as much in need, and arc likely to he bene
fitted by a good course of giVpMrtcr-school
*nd collegiate instruction, as the episcopa
lians: neither the ouc or the other arc a* jet
over-educated in our country.
We shall be glad to sec his pmpoinh
adopted and put in operation; f?r we arc ful
ly seiiMhlc as much as he is, how inferior
our hest grammar school* are, to Kton,
Westminster, Winchester, llauon and mine
other great schools in England, and even to
the German schools and universities. As
yrt, the Americans are not a well educated
people; nor will they he, till their grammar

foreign accuracy. Wc arc beginning to im
pro\e in this respect in South Carolina,
thanks to the South Carolina College: but
much yet remains to be done.

We last week paid a visit to the i*.arc of
one of our wholesale dry goods merchants,
