As soon as he was seated in the presidency,

and then,as if to show that the chastisement
had produced,Us effect, dashed headlong at
any game that the finger of their master
pointed out. Throughout the last four years*
they have been held in the same slips with
t)?e ".National J urnal," and hunted in the
same couples. And worse and meaner than
the " National Journal," they have joined in
thechace for the garbage merely, and have
attacked their old friends and supporters.?
Tne *4 National Journal1'too, has the advjm
tage of a consistent iniqtilty. It has fulfilled
its destiny?for it was engcwlercd and born
in the corruption of the present administra
tion, and is dying with it. But the " Intelli.
gencer" was created by the old republicans,
fed ??nd pampered by the South. These it
abandoned, denounced all the principles of
the republican party, and adopted a regular
system of abuse and misrepresentation of the
South* General Ja*-kenn H depicted as a
blind, infuriated, unprincipled, military
despot?as a coarse and vulgar tavern braw
lcr? and as for us of the South, the mildest
epithets were traitors and rebels?men who
had determined to dissolve the Union if Mr.
Adams were re-elected.?And now, when
General Jackson is coming Into power, and
his friends are triumphant, these unmanner
ly menials, these souless sycophants, come
forward cap in hand, with a wheedling voice
and supplicating tone, begging alms of their
late victims, and protesting that they have
not joined in the blood hound cry of that
pack which has been hunting us to death.?
We do hope that the Gcnersl Government
wilt be cleansed of this filthy appendage*
that Congress will not hereatter distribute
th? streams of public Information through
this reeking aewer? that the " National In
telligencer" will be permitted to rot on the

and the " Democratic Press," and the rest of
th?t litter.
We strongly suspect that Mr. Adums in

another fourth, (whose honesty will not be
