The Legislature of Georgia have adopted
a report of 11 committee, remonstrating *
gainst any appropriation of money by tho
Congress to the Colonisation Society, as a
measure beyond hII doubt, unconstitutional.
Our Legislature, .it its past hession, bus nut
only designated iu round terms, the uncon
stitutionality of thismeasure; hut havebegun
at the rt.ot, ami lopped off tlic bi anihey, of
the unjust and hiequitous s>stcin of intermit
improvement*, and ti e passage of all laws
for protecting duties, winch ha* e too long
infringed on the sovereignty of the Mutes
by the liberality of the Congress of the U.

passed by both branches of the Legislature of

violations ot the constitution in its spirit, and

whose limits those internal Improvements
are made; the authority of congress extending

terest, and that congress has no power in
hiijr way to patronise or direct appropriations

quested to continue to oppose every increase
?>f the tariff, with a view to protect domestic
manufactures, and all appropriations to the
purposes of internal improvements of the
United States, and all appropriations in favor
of the Colonisation Society, or the patronage
of the same, r.ther directly >r indirectly by
the general government.

ed to transmit copies of this preamble and
resolutions to the governors of the several
f-tates, with a request that the same be laid
