About a month, since, we gave a sltnrt des
cription of a labor saving machine for plant
lug and cultivating cotton, com, rice, K<c.
which, we Understand lias attracted the at
tention of several of the neighboring plan
tera.
A trial of the machine was recently made
near Charleston, before some of the officers
and members of the Sooth Carolina Agricul
tural Society, of the successful issue of
which the certificate' below speak. The
inventor Mr. P. II. Smith (proprietor of the
musical glasses) is now in town and contem
plates improving the machine so that it will
plant three rowaof rice with the greatest
facility. A drawing of it, together with the
intended improvement, mar be seen in our

and at one operation the trench was open

adapted for either corn or cotton, and may
