New York Pressing The following are the resolutions adopted unanimously by great cot. ton convention held in New Orleans. February 17 and 18: 1. Red net ion of 1919 cotton acreage by one-third as compared with the acreage in 1918. 2. A pledge not to sell part of the present crop for other than remunerative prices and to hold this crop until the demand calls for it at suCh prices. 3. Formation of state cotton acreage reduction associations, whose business it will be to secure written pledges "to carry out the flr tt two provisions front every cotton grower and cotton producer in the United States. 4. Resolution to brand any man who refuses toi co-operate as ‘‘so lacking in public spirit as to forfeit the confidence of the community in which he lives.” , -5. A future convention of cotton producers before which' a detailed report of the progress of the plans outlined above is to be made by ev_ ery cotton-growing state. Resolutions Adopted. The resolutions follow.: Whereas, The accumulation of large stocks’of cotton in the hands of the farmers and merchants of the South financed by the bankers of the same section, and the drastic decline in price to figures below the cost of production due to post war trade disorganiza tion, to the scarcity of ocean ton. nage, to tfre restrictions on t ad.’ imposed by foreign nations, to the overt attacks of interests favorable to low prices for cotton regardless of the welfare of producers, and to the general uneasiness in regard t? the uncertainties of the reconstruc tion period, have precipitated upon the cotton producing, mercantile and hanking interests of the South a crisis fraught with grave menace to the present welfare of the section as well as to the future prospserity thereof; and. That this convention de clares that if the foregoing acreage reduction platform is vearried out there will be no necessity to sell any part of the present crop for other than remunerative prices, and the convention hereby pledges itself and its members and ^(filiations not to sacrifice the present crop but to hold the same until demand calls for it at such prices. Third. That the farmers, mer. chants and bankers of the South should organize their force and influence to the end that the acreage reduction and holding campaign shall be carried vigorously into every county and every sub-division there, of in every cotton growing State; that hi furtherance of this intensive campaign those States which are already organized should earnestly prosecute the work so well begun, and those States which as yet are no) organized should proceed at once to marshal their forces and In so doing .should utilize the machinery of the Council of National Defense, where available, and the State and County agents of the Agricultural and Educational Department of such States; that in all counties in w’hicn public organization meetings have ' not been already held, such meetngs should be held on Saturday, Febru ary 22, for the purpose of ratifying the acreage reduction and cotton holding movement and securing the •written pledges of all concerned, and | it is recommended that said day or ! such day as may be appointed shall be declared a holiday and all stores in such meeting place be closed. " Fourth.
