The war has had everybody worked up and kept our nerves on an edge and after this horrible slaughter seased; the-coun try being swept from ocean to ocean bjr the terrible plague. On Christmas eve night we all had a scare about the gas going off and it did fof a few hours but came back on in time Christmas morning for us to prepare our din ners for which we were most thank, ful. for oh; my. the big fat hens and turkeys that were all Veady and waiting for the roasting pan. On the following Friday news came again that If wa * there being a pipe burster! in Red river six feet of water. It sure did off and stayed off untlll last Wed nesday, since then w* are celebrat ing trying to see how worm we can get during the wasless days we had some terrible' weather, rain ' and sleet. I for one had some experi ence trying to cook and keep worm. I had a little good- heater about v ’ by Id ir 12 inches that 1 had to d > all my cooking on.,{but we got by somehow and are still enjoying life. Have just returned from a trip up in Oklahoma, most of my stay being in the city of Hugo, a place of about 60 or 80 inhabitants; they have paved streets and everything modern which makes it a very charming little city. Things are about normal out here only lots if folks moving and getting settled for the new yejar work. Trust I will see lots of letters in Press from week to week.
