we have entered into another year

of our life. - .
Christmas was dull out here thia
as I believe it was almost
everywhere. The war has had
everybody worked up and kept our
nerves on an edge and after this
horrible slaughter seased; the-coun

bjr the terrible plague. "Spanish in.
fluenza” caused people to loose all
spirit for cayety of course the child
ren had to be remembered by Santa

never forgets to m^ke their little
hearts glad. Am sorry to state
that our town is again harbaring
that old disease th** "Flu” ther* is
quite a number of cases here and it
is proving real fatal. The schools
however are running and having
splendid attendance. I peflTaThlv
am sorry t° RO niany deaths from
this epidemic back borne. We
can scarcely wait for the Press each
week to read the happenings hack
there; but it makes us so sad when
we find so many •( our friends hav -
passed sway.
As I have written before, we
burn -^as ouj here which is piped
some part of Louisana. I tell yon
it certainly is a luxuary especially
on these cold mornings when one
lies in bed dreading to build the flrv
Well this gas allays all that trouble
for all one has to do is to strike a
match and turn on the gas and the
fire is made, but believe me when
anything gets wrong with the pipes
etc ones mind wanders back to the
old fire place and the big log fire '
where one can lounge back In a big
rocker and dream those sweet
dreams of the past. .Oh; that is
heavenly —The fire place for dreams
and the gas stove for thought, nor
such sweet thoughts either as yon
will note when I tell you of an ex.
perience. On Christmas eve night
we all had a scare about the gas
going off and it did fof a few hours
but came back on in time Christmas
morning for us to prepare our din
ners for which we were most thank,
ful. for oh; my. the big fat hens
and turkeys that were all Veady and
waiting for the roasting pan. On
the following Friday news came
again that If wa * there
being a pipe burster! in Red river
six feet of water. It sure did
off and stayed off untlll last Wed
nesday, since then w* are celebrat
ing trying to see how worm we can
get during the wasless days we had
some terrible' weather, rain ' and
sleet. I for one had some experi
ence trying to cook and keep worm.
I had a little good- heater about v ’
by Id ir 12 inches that 1 had to d >
all my cooking on.,{but we got by
somehow and are still enjoying life.
Have just returned from a trip
up in Oklahoma, most of my stay
being in the city of Hugo, a place of
about 60 or 80 inhabitants; they
have paved streets and everything
modern which makes it a very
charming little city. Things are
about normal out here only lots if
folks moving and getting settled for
the new yejar work.
Trust I will see lots of letters in
Press from week to week. With
best wishes to Th’e Press and Stand.
