The exhibits are fine in the hog and
poultry departments, and fairly good
in the other departments. The farm
exhibit of J. W. Durham is exciting
comment and • praise. The officers
.ind superintendents of the associa
tion are working hard to hav e every
thing come off as planned.
The - parade which was to have
featured the day today had to be
abandoned on account of the rain
this morning. It is expected that
»he parade for the negroes on Fri
day will be a big event for the Jay.
Thursday will be Live Stock Day,
and a meeting will be held at the
grand stand at 11 o’cloclC to organize
a county live stock - association.
Many persons interested in live stock

Several of the tented shows are
new and Instructive. They are all
interesting and several are amusing.
Special mention should be made of
the 1 minstrel show, wlpch pleases
everyone. The. .pony show is also
splendid, and the trip through China
Town is interesting and instructive.
Mutt and Jeff is rich, and ^tbe sub

Kelly meets old friends on his secoqd
visit here. - Among the most in

everyone and prove agreeable to the
audiences. The girl show is llso
attracting good crowds.
• The merry-go-round, the whip,

Is the first intimstion that aaother

A petition was recently filed with
Governor Manning asking tor nn

it will annex Jtself to Bamberg eoun-
j ty. Governor Manning n day or two
ago appointed the commissioners, as
follows;
For annexation—C. H. Smith and
J. Z. Harrison, both of Smoaks post-
office. '.
Against annexation—E. F. Bennett
and Frbd Padgett, whose postoffice
also is .Smoaks.
. It is the purpose of those interested
in the matter to rush the election ns
soon as. possible. In order to get the
faattcr into shape for ratiflention by
the coming general assembly, at the
same time of the ratification of the
other section that has already voted
itself into Bamberg.
• The proposed territory is -composed
of practically a whole school district,
in which is located ode school, and
measures slightly more Nthan ttare-’•
square miles. There are a number of
fine families in the district, and there
are about 21 vot.ers.included in th'-
territory, which fs one of the ilnem
sections of Colleton county.
With this territory annexed to
Bamberg, together with that alread-'
voted on, Bamberg county will ar-
quare more than seven square miles
of new territory, in which Is some of
the finest' farms in lower Carolina.
Every voter in the proposed territory
signed the petition for the election,

there appears to he no reason why it
