% V THE PRESS AND STANDARD Wednesday, Jane 12, 191s 1 I .rvt \ ■» AND GET BOOT / * ' • . » * ' It is costing about thirteen billions of dollars a year for this country to'prose cute the war. . , v The government is raising this money in two ways—by borrowing and by taxa tion. . . ^ • o ' It is a foregone conclusion that, one way or the other, tlie government will get every cent it needs to win the \var/because the American people mean to fight on to the finish-—to Germany s finish. ^ Which means that the larger the loans, the.smaller the taxation. And just as every man, woman and child is being taxed according to his or her means, so must all LKND according to their means. ^ When you are taxed, the*money is t g<-ne forever. When you lend, you-will get the money back with liberal interest. • The sane, sensible and safe thing to do is to invest in the government’s War Savings Stamps. By lending our savings to the government, the government is giv en the purchasing power it needs to maintain the army and navy. By investing in War Savings Stamps we simply lend t^e money to the most powerful, resourceful, and wealthiest nation in the world, and on January 1, 1923, this nation will pay us $5.00 for every stamp purchased now for $4.17. There is no safer, simpler or more attractive investment in the world. \ Colleton county ha& been assessed $320,000 for the June drive as her quota ot our investment in War Savings Stamps. The county will not fail to go over the top in this as in all other war campaigns, but to do so will require the united effort ot every man, woman and child in the county. \ r ; . % y / A big sum? Yes, sure. But what of it? We have the entire year in which to raise it, and it can easily be done if EVERY person, white and black, gets busy.
