Considerable interest is hcinu
«hown in the Senatorial riimpai^n.
The three principal candidates In
the race are SenatoV Tillman. Cou-
cressman Lever and former Gover
nor Rle.ise. It has been known all
the while that Senator Tillman had
no intention of eoinc on the cam-
paian over the State for fhe reason
that he felt his duties required that
he remain in Washincton, ..and also
that hi* health would not permit
his making the strenuous campaign.
Mr. Blease intended to make the
campaign till Congressman Lever
announced, and he now comes out.
irith V statement that he* does not
intend to eofform to the schedule
of meetings arranged hv the State
executive committee, hut that he in
tends to conduct his own campaign
la his own way.
^ Lever's Statement. ^
‘ Congressman L» ve*- makes some
very caustic comments upon this
decision bv Blease. and has given
out the following interview:
"1 am not surprised .at this ac
tion. It is nothing more than I ex
pected; it Is in line with his whole
career. He knows no law save his
own reckless wild ambition. I am
running for the Senate within the
Democratic party and in accordance
with its rules and regulations.' The
party has said what my schedule o'
speaking dates shall be and 1 shall
stand hy it.
. "Blease's bolting of the rules an<V
regulations of the Democratic party
of the State will not alter my plans
except that it will deprive me of th >
chance of exposing to his face his
un-American sentiment, his disloy
alty to the Democratic administra
tion. his wanton and malicious at
tacks upon President Wilson am.
his reiterated lack of sympathy for
the war aims of his government.
RcverM** Himself.
"Blease has always been In favor
of the county-to-eounty cartvass. It
is significant that only after my en
trance intoMhe race he' suddenlv
suffers a chance of heart on th'-
county-to-county campaign. His
failure to** observe it, now can be
explained bnlv bv his fear of ^havin ’-
to face. Vis hu- Nmerican utterances
at’Pon^irih and Fillbert at the de
claration of war by this government
He know* /hat t shall not allow him
t<| escape them and he dares not
meet me face to face before the
people of the State each day in the
campaign upon these issues.
The people of South Carolina
will pot be fooied by any such po
litical sniping He knows what the
one iffiie in this campaign is going
to be. He dares not face it. My
er.trr^ice into this race has run him
off the stump.”
"I can and do recommend Tanl.u
because of the >va?y it helped me.
Taulac is a .wonderful medicine, ami
E-eannot find wohds to express ui'
praise of, it.” declared C. L. Carter,
of 71 Bay St.. Charleston, a retire!
farmer. fY*r se\*;n years I suffered
with stomach trouble, indigestion
and kicjney trouble.. During that
time I had the best treatment I
could get and eveo went flo the hos
pital, without getting permanent re
lief. I suffered, from a number of
minor ills that always kept me feel
ing badly, and I believe 1 had pall
stones. My most serious trouble
was convulsions, and at times I
would be unconscious for hours.' l
