See Home Herd First.
Mr. Bpfnton came up about this
time, driving been away looking af
ter.ftome of the interests of his
lafge farm. He at once suggested
/’going to see some of his Hereford*.
We first went to see the splendid
herd w'hich he had built up in the
eight years he has been raising this
breed. Here we saw fourteen very
fine registered animals, among them
being several old and a number of
very pretty young cattle. Many
farmers would have been contented
with this herd, but not so with Mr.
Boynton. He has the vision of the
big things * possible for the cattle
breeder in the near future, and
when he saw that there was to be
a sale of thoroughbred Hereford’s
at Atlanta the last xteek in March,
he was there and prepared to bring
home some beauties. In the write-
up of this sale, given by The Pro
gressive Farmer, the following is
noted: “When Mr. S. E. Bovnton.
of Green Pond. S. C . bid $280 each
f *n 18 head, he grabbed the honor
of being the heaviest purchaser.
Mr. Boynton secured 19 head for
which_Jif paid 1 $5,340 and his bid
on tw*o full pens as the first one was
being led into thfe ring caused a
mild sensation.”
