From the shipyards of the Pacific
to those of the Atlantic; on our farms
and in our mines, mills and factories in
every State in the Union; back of the
firing lines in France, where men are
training, camps are being erected and
railroads built, billions upon billions
are being expended for labor, for trans
portation, for materials and supplies
of every description. .
The mind can hardly conceive the sums of money
v required for our war preparations. Yet these ex
penditures are absolutely essential
We must win the war quickly if possible; we must
carry it on for years if necessary. We must do
the job with American thoroughness, let the cost
be what it may.

Editor The Pres* and Standard:
It is rather late for a new* ar
ticle about our Fnion meeting which
wa* held with the First Haptist
church of Walterboro on the fifth
Sunday in March, but I desire to
take this opportunity to state that
the program as arranged wa* car
ried out well, and that those pres
ent enjoyed the meeting vey much.
We have never seen such ^mspital-
itv. and there was genuine regret
on the part of the people of th>
town that there were not more del-
etates to go home wifh them.
The collection for missions
amounted to $HV5<V
At the conclusion of the program
we witnessed the interesting cere
mony of ordination of three deacons
for the church: C. D. M*v. J. D.
,vonl.ehe and P. M Murray.
#The next I’nioa meeting will be
[held with the Marion church at Wil-'
• Hams on the 5th Sunday in July.
