The exeeutive conunittee of the
Colleton County Fair aasoeiation
held a meetinu Saturday and select
ed' ofileera for the fair association
for this-year. Col. Jaa. G. Padpetl.
State Senator from Colleton county
and a leadinu attorney and farmer
of the county, wae chosen presideilt
Cot Padcett has been a vice presi
dent of the association for* a nnm
her of years. Other officers were
elected and plans were started for
holdimpt, the next fair, which will
be In November. .
For the past two years the fa>r
n.heid here has been the Southern
Carolina Fair embracinp exhibits
from the four counties of Southern
Carolina, but this year it was de
cided to return to the Colleton
County, fair, and while exhibits from
the other counties would be invited \
it was felt wise t» hold only a
county fair this year. The expense
of .holding the four county fair wer«*
too heavy.
Amonc the features of the fair
will be racing again, and the same
committee to have these in charge
was reappointed. They are it. H.
Wichman, Cleveland Sanders and
W. S. Marvin. The fair will em
brace four days as usual, hut the
price of admission has been increas
ed to 50 cents and 25 cents.
The following are the officers
elected: *
President, Jas. G. Padgett, Wa!-
terboro.
First Vice President. M. H. Hiott,
Round. ^
Second Vice President, U. H.

trips in the "low’' country, seeing!
some of the great developments bow ,
S ing on in lower Colletpn. \Vhik»
is trip was not over all of the
lower part of the countv it covered
enough of it. to show what great
things are being done in an agricul

the oncoming boll weevil. . >
Wo left Walterhoro early Friday
morning and firat noted the fine
Irish potatoes being grown right in
^ Walterhoro by Capt.i J. E. Moor*
and Messrs.-Wichman and Francis.
Capt. Moore's potatoes were the best
we saw at all during the day. though
there O aro many hundreds of / acr?s
being grown over the lower part of
the county. Those of Messrs. Wich-
juan and Francis are alfcb very fin**,
and the large field between to
and the cemetery never presented
a prettier appearance than it does
now with its green ami growing po
tatoes.
Just before reaehi»g IJenderson-
vMe we observed the big Held of J.
M. Speights and across the road the
well tilled farm of Haskell Moore.
Mr. Speights. Mr. Risher skid, keeps
four mules and two men to work
them. Tn do this he purchases the
best machinery, all of it of the
“riding” kind, wherever possible.
* and he thus cultivates just as much
land with two men as most other
farmers Ao wiih a man to every
plow. His field is a model of well
tilled neatness.
In Hendersonville n field of very
pretty rye belonging to C. H. Boyn
ton greets one from the piazzw nf
Mr. Baggett’s store. By the way-
one sees few prettier little towns
in the country than Hendersonville.
The homes are so well kept, being
freshly painted, and pretty lawns
in front, with an abundance of
flowering plats and plants. Some ‘"iru vu-c . .c».». ... | Admira | Beatty vans accompaniei
