WISE NEGRO LEADER
I^odge, March 11.—Editor Press
and Standard; Please allow me
apace in your valuable paper to
make a statement touching a mag
nificent speech delivered by the Rev.
,W. T. 'White last Sunday evening on
“Conservation and Waste," to a
packed housQ. First of all, I wish
to say in justlbe to Rev. W. G.
White that he has the issues of this
terrible war at his command and
knows what he Is talking about. X
From the beginning of this world
wide struggle he has never wavered
in his convictions concerning ulti
mate allied victory. He is ever
hopeful and seems to be absorbed
and confldent in the Anal results of
the American arms across the sea.
He leaves no stone unturned in ad
vising the people to look well t.»
their farms this year. And above
all. Mr. Editor, the people are with
him and they have great confidence
in his sane leadership. In 1917 the
people heeded the advice of their
gifted leader, worked harder than
ever and realized happy results. He
tells us that our salvation is in the
South and that the leading white
people of the South will give them
justice in return for their loyalty
and frugality. The farmers in this
section are up and doing and the
most of •them are ready for plant
ing.
Respectfully,

F. M< Morris, Washington St.,
says: “I am always glad to say a
good word for Doan’s Kidney Pills.
They have certainly, done me a lot
of good. I had weak kidneys and
my hack and limbs ached and
pained all the time. I was also
troubled with rheumatic pains. To
do my work was out of the ques
tion. The kidney action was too
frequent, breaking my rest and
causing me to get up a number of
times during the night. I bought
Doan’s Kidney Pills at Klein’s Drug
Store and they soon relieved me.
After taking four boxes, I was
cured of the rheumatic pains and
backaches and my kidneys are now
In good shape. Others of my fam
ily have used Doan's Kidney Pills
with the same good results. I
can’t praise them too highly."
(Statement given June 2, 1914.)
On January 14, 1918, Mr. Morris
added: “I can recommend Doan’i
Kidney Pills as highly and strongly
at this time as I did nearly four
years ago. The cure they gave me
at that time has been permanent
and I am glad to recommend them
to other kidney sufferers.”

CERTAIN-TEED PRODUCTS FOR SALE BY

COTTON ROLL ROT CONTROL j
It is an assured fact that hun
dreds of thousands of dollars are
lost annually by the farmers of
South Carolina by cotton boll rot.
This can be controlled and this loss
prevented, if we wish. First we
must determine whether or not our |
seed have the disease present. In •
order to do this Clemson College
has offered the use of its laborator
ies free to farmers of South Caro
lina. All that is required of the
farmer is that he send a sample of
his planting seed to the count'-
agent and the agent in turn will
send them to the college, where the
test will be made and the results
given to the farmers. I want to
urge that farmers send me or
bring about a pint of seed for this
test and when the report comes
back we can go to work trying tJ
get rid of the disease, if present.
First thing we should do is to
plant disease-free seed. Then wo
should select seed in field, plow un
der stalks and rotate. By doing
these things our cotton would be
free. Field counts in seven fields in
Colleton showed 20 per cent dis
ease, or one-fifth of hole lost per
acre.
