In response to invitations lent
them by tbe superintendent, quite a
number of patron* of the Walter
boro High school assembled at thi
auditorium last Friday afternoon
e-flor the purpose of organizing a par
ent-teacher association.
Dr. R. S. Bailey acted as temper
ary chdirtnan. and the association
was organized with the following
officers: Mrs. R. $. Bailey, prsal
dent; Mrs. G. C. Brown, vice-presi
dent; and Mrs. C. P. Fishburne. Sec
The time selected for monthly
meetings was tbe second Tuesdev
of each school month. Mrs. Bailey
took charge of the meeting and ap
? Dinted as program commute, Mrs.
am Fishburne. Mrs. W. W\ Smoak
and O. C. Brown.
Dr. Bailey Jn a short talk fully
explained the ‘objects of the asso
ciation and pointed out several ways
by which the teachers and parents
could be brought into closer coop
eration.
Considering tbe inclemency of the
weather and the prevalence of
measles and other contagious dis
eases in the community, the attend
ance at this first meeting was verv
encouraging, and it is belidved tha!^
thie attendance will be much larger,
at the next meeting. *
Measles continues to be epidemi'*
in the community, an<f the attend
ance on the public schools has been
cut down nearly one-third.
