Home on Furlough.
Lieut. J..T. Hiers, of Round,
spent several days last week at
Round visiting relatives. Lieut.
Hiers was in the first officers train
ing camp at Port Oglethrope, and
was commissioned a second lieuten
ant in the quartermaster’s depart
ment. He is a son of the late Rev.*
J. T. Hiers, of Round, and is a
young man of prominence.

eral weeks,- concluded her course of
Instruction early this week, and has
discontinued her Instruction. This
system will bo. adopted as a stand
ard for the school, and much thanks
is due to Miss McLean for her vol

took in the protracted meeting.

honor of Miss Pon, and the young
folks seemed to thoroughly enjoy

tended the morning service at the
Methodist church, dined with Miss
Eula Jones and then gave a dem
onstration on fancy packing in the
afternoon. Ashton hopes to have

ton to Smoaks. She was beautifuF,
happy, bright and cheerful. No one
could see her without losing her.
She only lived six months at Ash
ton. hut Ashton can never forget the
sunshine site brought into the col^
jnunlty and especially in the home
and hearts of Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
Berry and daughters. Her supnV
disposition made them forget even
that the “war was on.” Their home
now- has lost Its most precious jewel
and it. seems they cannot be content.
They still listen for little Maxie’s
sweet cooing. Ashton -will always
