Dr. Z. C. Boyd, in charge of the
tick eradication work for Colleton
county, reports that he has not had
much trouble so far with the people
in getting them to dip the cattle.
There have been a few discontent
ed persons who have not dipped
their cattle, and a few prosecutions
have been made. Moses Seriven,
a negro at Green Pond, was bound
over to court under bond of $300
for refusal to dip his cattle; Joe
Middleton, Green Pond, pleaded
guilty and was fined $T0.00 by the
magistrate. A few others in anoth
er community were haled before the
magistrate, but were not prosecuted
upon promise to' dip regularly in
the futufe.

for the entire county, but Dr. Boyd'
says thig will be done July' 15th,
after which date the owners of cat
tle will have to dip no matter how-
far they must curry their cattle to

The Civic Leagtu- met in regular
session at the club rooms >londay
afternoon, with a large attendance
of member*. Reports from the dif
ferent committees showed that the
members had been busy during the
past month, and plans were made
for continued activity during the
next month. A permanent commit
tee was appointed to see th|t the
park near the depot vis kept dean,
and placed in first class condition.
Another committee on the school
grounds was appointed, and' 1 thebe
grounds will also be placed In flrat*
class condition.
In their effoi^s towards keeping
a clean town, the members of the
League are greatly annoyed at the
practice of some merchants of
throwing waste paper and refuse in
the streets instead bf placing them
in receptacle* to lie carted off by
the town authorities. An effort will
lie made to get Council to pass an
ordinance prohibiting this. and. .to
enforce it strictly.

who sailed several weeks ago. The

gram stated that ho had arrived
safely and was well, and that he

Demonstration clubs of South Caro
lina was held at Wlnthrop College
June 18-23, inclusive. The vast
army of home-makers was repre
sented by a delegation nearly 100

Lizzie Padgett add Dell Hlott. The
days were full from 6:45 a. m.. when
the rising bell sounded to 11 p. m .

of the week's work would be indeed
a herculean task. It is needless to
say that every minute was enjoyed.
A little outline of the work may
be interesting to those who did not
attend and I will try and give,a
brief one of it.

declaring only annual dividends and
declared a semi-annual dividend pf
8 per cent. In addition to this divi

It is thought this is the first time
