A PATRIOTIC^CALL
7
•>r e
X
A call has come to the people of Colleton county earlier, than
tftey thought to show their patriotism and their loyalty to their
country. President Wilson has called upon thcrAmerican people
for $100,000,000 for the Red Cross, the only recognized inter
national organization for the alleviation of suffering in the' wake
of war’s devastations. Of this fund South Carolina has had al
lotted as her share, $300,000. .. Colleton c&unty Vnu^t raise $3,0U<*
of this amount, between the dates June 18-25.
Already many of our boys are in training to go to the battle

front in France. A fev have already gone. Soon there will be
many of them over there, and the Red Ckss is the <*nly agency
which will have in charge the alleviation of their suffering, and
the ministration to their wants. It will be a comfort to you t
know that the best this powerful organization can do f«r the
health, comfort and happiness of your relative, neighbor or friend
is being done, and that YOU HELPED MAKE THEM ABLE TO
DO THIS GREAT WORK. This is the first time this opportunity
has come to you who perhaps will not be able to go yourself to
the front with them. They are giving ALL THEY HAVE TO
THEIR COUNTRY—WHAT WILL YOU GIVE' They will fight,
perhaps die. for you. will you GIVE TILL IT HURTS FOR THEM?
The patriotic honor of Colleton county and South Carolina
is at stake, and it depends upon the way in which this call is
heeded whether oFnot we shall meet the great duty which come
to us at home now. - . - • X.
‘ GIVE FREELY TO, A WORTHY AND PATRIOTIC PUR
POSE—AND GIVE NOW.

Cotton Blooms
~r
The Press and Standard has been
beeeiged by first -blooms of cotton
this week, and for several days last
week. Judging from the fine con

the very great interest farmers are
taking it is small wonder that there
is such keen rivalry in seeing who
shall be first. .1
The following are among those
who sent in first blooms:

of this town, says: "When about 15 years
of age, I suffered greatly ... Sometimes
would go s month or two, and 1 had
terrible headache, backache, and bearing-
down pains, and would just drag and
had no appetite. Then ... it would last
... two weeks, and was So weakening,
and my health was awful. ^
My mother bought me a bottle of
Cardui, and I began to improve after
taking the first bottle, so kept it up till I
took three... I gained, and was well
and strong, and I owe it all to Cardui.
I am married now and have 3 children
. v . Have never had to have a doctor lor
female trouble, and just resort to Cardui
if \ need a tonic. I am glad to testify to
what it has dohe for me, so as to help
others.” •
If you are nervous or weak, have head
aches, backaches, or any of the other
ailments so common to women, why not
give Cardui a trial? Recommended by
many physicians. In use over 40 years.
Begin taking Cardui today, ft may
be the very medicine you need.
