Spartanburg. March lit—The pro
gram of the State Sunday Schorf
Convention to be held in Spar’an-
bufg. May/ 1.3 will contain th*-
names of more th.tr fif*v of the
leading Sunday sch<>,*| workers in
South Carolina and i n Nort’i A ieri-
ca. The program commute** of the
State association is endeavoring to
give to the Sunday school people < f
the State.the'-best program ever pre
sented and they have assurances of
success. Practically every Sunday
school worker that so far has been
a$ked to serve on the program h«s
ucepted. Within two weeks the
whole program will be complete.
In addition to the large number
of speakers for general addresses
many special-
sentiment in these communities that 1
the bond issue will carry. It is
thought that the vote at Cottage-
ville will be closer than at Smoaks,
but a number of voters at the form
er place say the bond issue will
carry there by a safe majority. Ev_
eryone concedes that at Smoaks the
vote will be largely in favor of the
bonds, though there is more* oppo
sition to it at Berea. It is expected
that these meetings will be of ma
terial benefit to the cause.
Meeting at Cottageville.
The meeting at Cqttageville Mon
day was attended by about 15** vot
ers and a number of ladies as well
as many young men and boys. The y
meeting was held at the school at/'
ditorium. and presided over by W.
E. Willis, chairman of the local ar
rangements committee. At the con.
elusion of the meeting ? the ladies
spread a picnic 'dinner- which was
the enjoyable event of the inerting.

the association.

Mr. Smoak declined to accept the

year in the awards made for the*
greatest improvement In the schools
between Jan. 1. 19U. and March
1. 1917, and that prize was won by
Bethlehem school, largely through
the efforts of Miss Madeline Miller
and her assistant. Miss Bessie Ryan,
assisted by the members of the Beth
lehem school improvement associa
tion. This school is being congrat
ulated on the success attending its
efforts.
Bethlehem school also won a cer
tificate of award^for having adopted
compulsory school attendance thr;i
the efforts of the school improve
ment association.
Tabor school won a prize of $. r > 00
