The Right Medicine in Many Cases
Do« Better than the Surgeon’s
Knife. Tribute to Lydia E."Pink-
ham’s VegetaUe Compound. " '
Doe toe 8*id Operation or Death-But Medicine Cored.
HU] Des Moines, Iowa.-“Mv husband says I would
1 bad it not been for
I Pmkliani8 Vegetable Compound. 1 suf.
M t^ ron . 1 , a serous female trouble and the doctors
H said 1 could not live one year without an operation.
My husband objected to the operation and had me
try Lydia E. I’lnkham s Vegetable Compound. I
soon commenced to get better and am now well
and able to do my own housework. I can recom
mend Lydia E. l*inkham’s Vegetable Compound to
*uy woman as a wonderful health restorer.”—Mrs.,
BLAxenn Jeffeksos,703 Lyon St, Des Moines, Iowa.
Another Operation Avoided.
Richmond, Ind.—“For two years I was so sick and weak from
female troubles that when going up stairs I had to go very slowly
with my hands on the steps, then sit down at the Top to rest. The
doctor said he thought I should have an operation, and my friends
thought 1 would not live to move into our new house. My daughter
asked me to try Lydia E. Finkham’s Vegetable Compound as she had
taken it with good results. I did so, my weakness disapjieared, I
gained in strength, moved into onr new home, do all kinds of garden
work, and raised hundreds ot chickens and ducks. I cannot say
enough in praise of Lydia E. I’inkham’s Vegetable Compound.”—Mrs.
M. O. Johnston, Route D, Box 190, Richmond, Ind.
Of course there are many serious cases that only a
surgical operation will relieve. We freely acknowledge
this, but the above letters, and many others like them,
amply prove that many operation^ are recommended when
medicine in many cases is all that is needed.
If you want special advice write to Lydia K. Pinkham Medi
cine Co. (confidential) Lynn, Mass. Your letter w ill be opened,
read and answered by a woman and held in strict confidence.

The Soulhern people are slowly
waking up to the fact that because
an article is made ! n some othe'*
section of the country, this fact does
not make it better than if it had
been produced in our own Sou*'i.
land. Until very recent years we
have been devot'njj almost all of our
attenfion to cottou raising, and us
ing foot and manufactured roods
from the North and West. We aie
now begini'ing to realise how fooUsh
wo have hten and *hat th I? hard
ly anything that we caa not mak
cijuai to, or better t^ain Norther*
nrod'j. eii goods.-‘ With . a country
(hat ir ideal for growing corn and
wheat, we have gone far away for
ho»hjhe§e articles^. YVilh-a-soit and
climate that is perfect for cattle
raising, we have long depended on
the North and West to furnish us
with both meat and butter. f f those
sections can make money in this but-
iness when they have to stall-feed
their cattle for at least seven or
eight months in the year. It should
be very profitable here, where the
weather is suitable for grazing al
most every day in the year. We are
told .that tuberculosis can be con
tracted by eating butter made from
cows affected with this disease. We
very seldom hear of Southern cows
having this disease, because they
are in the ope n practically all the
time, hut it is a very common dis
ease in the North, and. as the cows
are kept so closely confined for the
greater part of the year, when tuber,
culosis does get into a herd, it is
quickly contracted by all the cows
of the herd As is commonly known
butter made from a grass-fed cow,
is far superior in flavor to that from
a stall fed cow. and the likelihood
of tuberculosis is a matter to be
considered. v
There are now in the South "he
tween thirty and forty creameries,
whereas they did not number over i
half-dozep five years ago. As the
dairies aic in the South, the butter
is put on the market almost the same
day ir is made, thus retaining all the
original flavor. . which cold storage
destroys. All Northern and West
ern butter has to he put in cold
storage for a longer or shorFer time
(very often for several weeks> 4ind
of course it can not then be as pala
table as when freshly churned.
The uncertainty,of the cotton mas-
kef, the present prohibitive prices of
fc Fertilizers and the inroads being
made on the cot*on belt.by the boll
neevil, have cause.! a great alarm
among our Southern people. is
a problem that we will have to
meet, and .ve will meet this as we
have met all other great problem
