On Tuesday, the lith Inst., the
Dew rottoty officers, elected in the
fall, assumed the duties of the of
fices to which they were elected.
Aside from the fact that new offi
cers were In some of the offices,
nothing unusual could be noted, as
the business of the county Is being
carried on without interruption.
Mr. A. L. Kirkland, of OUr, as
sumed the duties of the office of
clerk of court, succeeding Mr. J. L.
Copeland. Jr, Sir. F. O. Brabham,
of Olar. Is Mr. Kirkland’s deputy,
succeeding Mr. Frank Smoak.
Messrs. Kirkland and Brabham
have beea in the office for the past

Mr. J. J. Brabham. Jr.,! assumed
the duties of. the office of master,
succeeding Mr. H. C. Folk, who
ceases connection with the affairs of

devolved the duties of probate judg *
and master, the two offices having
been combined recently. Mr. Brab
ham took charge of the office of
probate judge soon after the death
of the incumbent.' Mr. G. P. Har
mon, he having been appointed to
fill out the unexpired term of Mr
Harmon. *
The board of county commission-
era remains the same, with the ex
ception of Mr. A. G. W. Hill, who
is succeeded by Mr. Otis L. Cope
land, of Ehrhardt. Supervisor Mc
Millan* and Commissioner Bessin-
ger w«Ae re-elected last fall without
opposition.
Magistrate H. L. Free is succeed
ed by Mr. Edgar Lickson. Mr. Free
wattgUgl a candidate for re-election
to office, having entered the
race, ifi, the primaries for clerk of
court.
The offices of auditor and super
intendent of education, sheriff, cor
oner, and treasurer remain the
same, all of the present officers hav
ing been re-elected.

Little Girl Is
Operated Upon
Lodge, Jan. 23.—Little Miss
Pearl Beanett. the daughter of Mrs.
Emma E. Bennett, of this place, was
taken to a hospital In Charleston
Sunday for the purpose of undergo-
lag an operation for appendicitis.
This operation follows a recent mis
fortune in which the young lady
was badly burned from a powder ex
plosion during the Christmas holi
days. She has not recovered from
tfcis burn and the operation ahe was
callel upon to undergo Is rather
serious.

admission will be 20 cents for chil
dren and 40 cents for adults. This
is a picture that both young, and old
will enjoy.
MOODY SKAKSON DEAD
Moody Searson. the nine year old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Searson,
died at their home Sunday. January
14th, after a brief illness of acute
indigestion. Moody was a very
bright and obedient child and will
be missed by a large number of
relatives and friends.
H. T. Herndon, prominent mer
chant and planter of Hendersonville,
was in town Tuesday on business.
