COURT FINISHES
SEPTEMBER TERM
ONLY TWO DAYS REQUIRED
TO (LEAR JAIL OF
PRISONERS
JUDGE T. S. SEASE
Able Attorney Knnn SparmnlMirg
Presided (Her Term of <'ourt.
Cases Trietl. •
The September term of the Court
of General Sessions fof\ Colleton
county convened Monday itiornin^
for the trial of the jail cases. His
Honor .ludne Thos. S. SeaseXof
Spartanburg, was. in charge, Sherbi
Ackerman, Clerk Hudson, Solicito-
Peurifoy. Stenographer Rodrigues
\aml other eourt*officfhls were in ai-
teqdance. The purpose of the <'ourt
was to ^ry those cases in which the
accused were in jail, which was fin
ished Tuesday afternoon: court ad
journing sine die.
The charge which Judge Sea K A
made to the Grand Jury \yps able
and comprehensive.- After discuss
ing the necessity for the enforce
ment of all laws as a means of safe
guarding society and preventing the
vicious and the unprincipled from
riding rough shod over those* more
peaceably inclined. Judge Sease
strongly supported the compulsory
education idea, lie said we do not
look far enough into the future. The
full effects of such law would not
be felt for 4 0 years, but the wise
citizen should look to the enactment
of such laws'as would bring benefit
as far ahead as T.'» to 10ft years.
‘•Why should we tax ourselves to
educate our poor neighbor’s chil
dren?” asked Judge Sease. An
swering this question he said. “For
one reason—a very narrow one-^-
your grandchildren may marry his
grandchildren.” Other reasons wer.*
as weighty and not so selfish, such
as an intelligent exercise of the bal
lot. The need for educated citizen
ship was stressed His Honor, as
one of the safeguards of a perpet
ual government which- can only
long endure if the people he in
formed.
Judge Sease paid a very
tribute to t’lemson (’ol!eg*\
that In a hundred years the

of this collegeMdessed, and forward

We always say. ‘'money makes the

think it takes a good deal of money
tremendous sums of it. to make
these wheels go. but when you 44ap

National T’ay-l'p Week. The object
ot National Pay-Vp Week is to wipe
out all the accounts possible in* this
community. EverybodyHfi in it and
everybody will be helped. Every
lilife a debt is paid, a load is lifted.
Let’s unload during National\pay-

is that makes the most trouble for

which does not move on whep 1t is
most needed. It is the d^hts that
people owe that they eflrtild easily

cause the trouble.
It is the cirpwfating dollars, the
busy, rolling dollars, that make the
life-blood local business. That
same rotting dollar may pass in ono
day,fhrough fifteen or twenty dif-
