From The State. Sept. 2:
The Colonial hotel, purchased in
1914 by the Baptist State conven
tion to be equipped as a hospital,
was sold yesterday to J. L. Rentz.
proprietor of Hotel Albert. Walter
boro, for approximately $100,000.
Mr. and Mrs. Rentz assumed active
charge of the hotel at noon yester
day.
A committee appointed by the
Baptist State convention purchased
the hotel for hospital purposes, but
were offered the Knowlton hospital
at an attractive price within 24
hours after the deal for the Colon
ial hotel had been conrludpd. Wish
ing a building entirely adapted to
the purpose in hand and thoroughly
equipped for immediate occupancy
the committee purchased the Knowl
ton hospital and have leased the ho
tel until a suitable purchaser was
found. The Rev. Louis J. Bristow,
superintendent of the Baptist Stat*
hospital for the last year, negotiated
the trade for the convention.
Mr. Rentz is an experiened hot»l
manager and has a wide circle of
friends among the traveling men
He expects to operate the house as
a family hotel for traveling men and
Columbians. J. C. Pressly. who
came to Columbia June 15 as man
ager of the hotel, will be continued
in this rapacity
