unusual interest in connection with
the town of Walterboro. It Is pic

the mother of Mag. Paul and his
brother, Mr. Jacob Walter, who set
tled *'Walterboro” in 17 84’, She
may aptly be called “The Mother of
Walterboro.”
Mr. Richard Walter was a dele
gate from his home. Dorchester, to
the first Provincial Congress of
South Carolina, January, 1775. Mrs.
Walter died at the advanced age of
f>5 years. Her obituary pays her
this beautiful tribute: •Her virtues
are deeply engraved on the hearts
'of all who knew her, and long will
she be lamented as a tender and af
fectionate mothe^-, a disinterested
friend-, and a sincere Christian." At
