Malone, is a family portrait of unusual interest in connection with the town of Walterboro. It Is pic ture of Mrs. Richard Walter tnee Miss MJVy Rumph of Switzerland) the mother of Mag. Paul and his brother, Mr. Jacob Walter, who set tled *'Walterboro” in 17 84’, She may aptly be called “The Mother of Walterboro.” Mr. Richard Walter was a dele gate from his home. Dorchester, to the first Provincial Congress of South Carolina, January, 1775. Mrs. Walter died at the advanced age of f>5 years. Her obituary pays her this beautiful tribute: •Her virtues are deeply engraved on the hearts 'of all who knew her, and long will she be lamented as a tender and af fectionate mothe^-, a disinterested friend-, and a sincere Christian."
